Prices for .au domains are going up again

We recently got an update from auDA letting us know that the wholesale price for .au domains will soon be going up by almost 10%.

This increase in wholesale prices means we’ll be raising our .au prices to $13.50 from October 1 2026 to cover the costs.

We do what we can to keep .au domain prices as low as we can, like becoming an official .au registrar. You can rest assured, this really isn’t the kind of news we like sharing.

Still a chance to save

If you’re reading this before October, you’ve still got time to register .au domains at today’s $12.50 price.

It’s not just new domains that you can lock in this price. Currently registered domains can also be renewed at that current rate.

You can renew .au domains for up to five years (a rule that’s specific to .au domains), but there’s not much time to do so. We recommend you make your move sooner rather than later, before the new price kicks in.

Why is this happening?

As a registrar we’re able to supply you with domains as directly and cheaply as possible, but we still have to source them through the wholesaler who sets our baseline price.

For .au domains, the .au Domain Administration (auDA) is the governing body responsible for administering and regulating .au domains. They said the price rise supports the security and future of .au domains.

“The wholesale price adjustment of a .au domain name licence supports auDA’s continued operation as a self-funding, not-for-profit organisation and investment into the security and resilience of .au,” said auDA in the notice about the price rises.

Wholesale .au prices have increased every year for the past few years, and it’s likely the pattern will continue.

These changes specifically affect .au domain prices, and will apply to any .au domain regardless of the subdomain (that’s the part before .au in the domain). That means .au, .com.au, .org.au, .net.au, and any other .au variation you can think of, are all impacted.

Sooner rather than later

Whatever the reason, you still have a bit of time to pay today's prices for .au domain registrations and renewals. Remember, the price will change in October—so use your time wisely.

Again, we’re sorry about these price rises. Unfortunately we didn’t have much choice.
